Family Sponsorship


If you are a permanent resident or Canadian citizen, you can sponsor your family member to come to Canada and they can apply for permanent resident of Canada.

The family members that you can sponsor include: Spouse, Common-law Partner, Children, Parents, Grandparents, other relatives.


Parent and Grandparents Sponsorship Program


Who is eligible to sponsor a parent or grandparent?

1. You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

2. You are at least 18 years old

3. Living in Canada

4. You have met the minimum income requirement sponsoring your parent or grandparent, and you show prove of your income.

Note that based on the total number of family members, the immigration service has a minimum requirement for the income of the sponsor and his/her co-signer for the past three years. Please refer to the list below. The amount is in Canadian currency.


Proof of income include:

1. Notice of Assessment issued by Canada Revenue Agency

2. Canadian income tax form: T1, T4, T4A, T5, etc.


When counting your family size, you should include:

· Yourself

· Your spouse or common-law partner

· Your dependent child (under the age of 22, the children are counted as a family member only in the year of birth and subsequent years)

· Your spouse's dependent child (under the age of 22, the childeren are counted as family members only in the year of birth and subsequent years)

· The person you are undertaking sponsorship

· Your parents and grandparents (if you sponsor only one of your parents, the other should also be included, whether they come to Canada or not. For example, if you sponsor your mother and your parents' marriage actually exists, your father should be also included in the family size)


Sponsor your spouse, common-law partner and dependent children


Who is eligible to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner and children?

1. You are at least 18 years old

2. You are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident.

· If you are a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, you need to provide proof that you are willing to return to Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident of Canada.

· You cannot sponsor someone if you are a permanent resident and reside outside Canada.

3. You need to have the financial ability to provide the sponsored person with basic needs.

4. You need to provide proof of income if you sponsor,

· your dependent child who has one or more children (grandchildren), or

· your spouse’s dependent child and the child has one or more children (grandchildren)

5. If you are sponsored through family sponsorship as a spouse or common-law partner, you cannot sponsor your spouse or common-law partner within 5 years since you became a permanent resident..


Who you can sponsor?

1. Spouse, common-law partner, dependent children under the age of 22,

2. Children over 22 years old who have no financial ability due to physical and mental problems


Who is not eligible to be a sponsor?

1. You receive social assistance from the government, except for the disability.

2. You declare bankruptcy

3. You fail to pay immigration loans and to provide financial support to people who have been sponsored by you and are still in the undertaking period.

4. You live in Canada illegally and being deported


Advantages of family sponsorship:

· Provide full guidance to the client during the application process, review all the client's documents and ensure the consistency and accuracy of the contents of the documents;

· Guide the client to go through the physical examination and background check procedures and obtain the required physical examination certificate and no criminal record certificate;

· Submit the client's sponsorship and immigration application documents to relevant government departments;

· Inform the client of the progress and status of his immigration application;

· Handle all communications with Immigration Canada on behalf of the client;

· Act as the liaison between the government of Canada and the client;


Cost:

Government application fee: $75 guarantor qualification application fee, $475 permanent resident application fee (principal applicant, spouse), $550 permanent resident rights fee (principal applicant, spouse), $150 immigration application fee (each child aged 22 and below, if applicable), $85 (or $170 per family) biometric fingerprint information collection fee.

Other expenses: medical examination expenses, document translation expenses, mailing expenses, no crime record certificate, etc.
