Study Permit


You need to apply for a Canadian study permit before coming to Canada to study. The applicant obtains a study permit in compliance with Canadian immigration laws and regulations.

The study permit allows international students to learn academic program in one of the Designated Learning Institutionin Canada.


Advantages of Study Permit holders:

1. During full-time study, you can work up to 20 per week to obtain work experience.

2. You are eligible to apply for some benefits, such as provincial medical insurance cards, child care benefits, etc.

3. You can apply for a post-graduation work permit at maximum three years and engage in any work in any province (not applicable if there are special work permit restrictions, please refer to Work Permit).

4. Your spouse may be qualified for spouse open work permit

5.Your children can attend public schools in Canada without paying tuition fee.


Situations that study allows without having a study permit

1. Short-term courses: The duration of the course is 6 months or less and the course will be completed within the period for their stay authorized upon entry into Canada

2. Family members of foreign representative who is properly accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs

3. Members of armed forces of a country that is a designated state for the purposes of the Visiting Forces Act.


General Eligibility for applying for a Canadian Study Permit

In general, the requirements for applying for a Canadian study permit include:

1. you are a student enrolled at one of the designated learning institutions in Canada.

2. You can prove that you have enough money to pay for

· Your tuition fee

· Living expenses for you and your family who come with you to Canada

· Return Transportation for you and your family who come with you to Canada

3. You obey the law, have no criminal record

4. You are in no danger to Canada's national security

5. You are in good health and get a medical examination

7. You prove to an officer that you will leave Canada when your study permit expires

Government application fee: $150 for study permit application and $85 for biometrics information collection.

Other expenses: Education credential assessment, language examination, medical examination, document translation, courier service, no crime record certificate etc.
