Who can apply for Canadian Citizenship:

1. To become a Canadian citizen, most applicants must

a. Be a permanent resident

b. Have lived in Canada for at least 3 years (1095 days) in the 5 years before application.

Each day you were physically present in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person before you became a permanent resident counts as half day (up to a maximum 365 days)

The time spending outside Canada can be equal to spending in Canadian if you meet the following conditions: Those who work overseas as the Canadian Armed Forces, the federal public administration or the provincial government, or accompany one of your parents, spouses and common-law partner and they have the above circumstances

c. Have filed Canadian tax returns in the past three years

d. If you are between 18-54 years old, you need to provide language test results and pass a citizenship test

e. If you cannot provide the information mentioned in d due to mental or physical diseases, you can apply for exemption.


2. For a person whose one of parents is a Canadian citizen and there is no first generation limitation.

3. For child who was born in Canada, the child is a Canadian citizen regardless of the nationality and status of the parents.

4. If your child is born outside Canada, as long as one of the parents is a Canadian citizen and does not meet the first generation rule, the child is a Canadian citizen and needs to apply for a Canadian passport.


Circumstances that applicant cannot apply for Canadian Citizenship:

1. If you need to serve in Canada because of breaking the law, your time does not count as the time to apply for citizenship

2. If you have unfulfilled conditions related to your PR status

3. If you are under review for immigration or fraud reasons

4. Unable to meet the language requirements and fail the citizen examination

Government application fee: $530 citizenship application fee (adult), $100 citizenship rights fee; $100 citizenship application fee (Minor, under the age of 18)

Other expenses: document translation expenses, mailing expenses, etc.
